I was not afraid to step up and buy this one........

In the dead of summer 2009 at the dead Los Angeles ANA...........while the stock mraket was struggling to come back, this coin came on the market for a second time that year, the first being April 2009 Central States show. I bought it at 2 increments below that auction.

A PCGS MS 67 sold on the market for 43k in Jan 2009 and then the same coin again for about 30k at the 2010 ANA Boston show.

So I feel pretty good about this one. I think 2009 was a great time to buy some coins.

I don't know where I was when that 1897-S came up
but I have been looking for something nicer than my
AU 53 for many years. As there are no PCGS AU 58's,
your coin would have looked great in my collection !!

For all the criticism they get for looking blah when well circulated, Barbers do look nice in high grade.
    That is high grade!

Nice coin, agree with the OP's conclusions. The meaningful Pedigree doesn't hurt either.
