Epson V300 scanner?

Getting ready to purchase a new scanner and I've heard alot of good things about the V300.
Current owners of the V300, would you recommend it or is there another scanner on the market that I
should be checking out?

Thanks!

I purchased the V330 just last week and love it. I think the only difference is that it has a feature for scanning slides and photo negatives to produce images.

With eBay bucks and BigCrumbs, it was around $95 delivered, and I purchased a 3 year warranty from SquareTrade for less than $15.

Extremely high quality scans and features, the software isn't shabby either.

Probably the best scanner for the price on the market. Keep an eye out and you can find specials for under $80 dlvd...
  • It depends on what you collect, but I can't reccomend any of the Epson scanners because they use a LED light source.

If you scan anything reflective, you end up with this...

The HP G3110 is a great scanner, with a CCD element and a cathode tube light source.

They have gone up a bit unfortunately because they were discontinued recently.

This is true, I think most HP scanners use cathode tube lights sources, and the majority come with CCD elements as well. Great machines, but the price point isn't as great. I'm just coming from an HP scanner that I loved, but have found that I can minimize the rainbow effect by elevating the chrome card from the glass, or back-lighting the scan with a fixed LED.

Thanks for the advice guys. I collect mainly vintage so the LED light source shouldn't be an issue.
The price point on the Epson is pretty attractive as well.

If you don't plan on scanning 35mm film negatives you can save a little money and go with the Epson V30. It's the same scanning ellement and bed as it's bigger brother but about $15 cheaper. I've been THRILLED with mine.

Very true, the V30 and V33 are both great scanners, but have been building up in popularity and haven't been priced below $70 anywhere I've looked. They were once mainstays at Newegg.com for around $50 delivered.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I picked up a V300 last year based on recommendations from other users here. I love it and would highly recommend it. I've even used the film scanning features to scan some old negatives my Mom dug out of the closet. It's pretty cool to play around with and makes great scans too.

  • If you're not scanning anything reflective, then it really shouldn't matter. It just drove me nuts, so I returned my Epson.

The G3110 was around $50 dlvd on ebay for a long while, but since being discontinued, the price has shot up a bit.
