Best pack/box Rip for the Buck

I was wondering what people thought was the best pack/box rip for the buck. For example, best potential resale value, most hits, etc.

Let's get a price range to start with. Are you looking to spend under $100? Under $500? What sport are you looking at? Modern or vintage?

For the price - I love 1986 Topps Football.

  • I like 84 football, they are pretty cheap and if you hit you do nicely...

If you're wanting for a huge hit I'd look for a key box like 1998 SPX football(Actually had a box of that recently), or 98 sp authentic or something with pujols rcs and stuff like that

i second the 86 topps box. the 2 big hits are rice or young rookies and several other star rookies like reggie white, andre reed, bruce smith, boomer, and bernie kozar. 84 topps is very good too but is a little more expensive. The only problem i've found with 86 is that you get a card with a wax stain, a card with a gum stain and the card next to the 1000 yard club card is usually stuck to it and ruined. 89 score is a fun rip too. Its loaded with rookies but there are so many 10s there is no jackpot hit. If you get a young or rice in a 10 its a big hit.
Scans of most of my Misc rookies can be found <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://forums.collectors.com/m...y&keyword1=Non%20major">here
  • 74 and 76 Topps baseball. Oh, look, coincidentally there's a group rip for them now.

Any of the Topps Tribute packs! I love em! I wish I could buy 20 boxes of mixed years and rip em all! I like that you get cool jersey, bat, auto or any combination with some great players and some limited numbers and they are also very sharp looking cards.

1988 Topps (or something similar). These are the only boxes in the world where your expected loss is less than $5.
