Franklin Feeding Frenzy !

I just watched some nice Franklins sell on Heritage Auctions sell for what I consider moon money .

Overall very strong bidding for real nice MS-65 and 66 coins ............ I was pressing the button over and over
and didn't win a single coin .

It looks as though Franklins are enjoying a real bullish run , at least the neat color coins in plastic are image

    I noticed the same thing Paul. Had my eye on the the 60D - 66 FBL, but it too went for moon money.
    The 58 - 67 price was incredible! Should see a rise in Franklin values - fingers crossed!

    Sacramento is about 2 - 2.5 hours drive from here, so I went to the show yesterday and today (staying overnight in Sacto). I was happily surprised while looking at the Franklins in today's session, particularly considering that in the Heritage catalogue they were consigned to the "junk" section... e.g. no pictures etc. I started flipping through the coins in the boxes and I was like, "Holy Moly!", these are some nice Frankies.

    I particularly liked:

    lot 8364, 1948 pcgs MS66FBL;
    lot 8401, 1951-S pcgs MS65FBL;
    lot 8408, 1952-D pcgs MS65FBL;
    and lot 8424, 1953-S pcgs MS66.

    I bid on the first two (and would have bid on the third... if space memorabilia wasn't putting such a crimp in my coin collecting). I got smoked on the first (bidding up to $600, e.g. $690 with the juice) and won the second (and my absentee bid was considerably higher than the final price, which gives you some idea of how I value the coin). I do hope that no one on these boards bought lot 8365 pcgs 1948-D MS65FBL, as while it is attractively toned, I have a suspicion that the toning is AT.

    Anyhow, it was fun to see such a nice grouping of Frankies.

    Holy Cow! 4-5x PCGS Price Guide is NUTS. If they were beautiful rainbows I would excuse it maybe but in these cases just plain nuts! ....IMO.

  • Can you believe some fool (me) paid $920.00 for a 1953-P PCGS MS65 FBL (Lot 8415)?

    at least you won something - I wanted that 53-S in PCGS MS66 toned so bad I could taste it .......

    but the line has to be drawn somewhere for Pete's sakes ..............

    Either some new buyers have come onto the scene or the old one's got smarter .

    I had owned several of those coins and sold them 7 or 8 years ago for very strong money ; they averaged selling last night for about double what I sold them for back then .......

    doubling up in 7 years is o.k , but not spectacular ...........and those several pieces were super dooper coins ;

    at least somebody's making money on the
