1990 Topps factory set Thomas NNOF?

I have an unopened 1990 topps factory set. Do I need to go through it to check to see if there is a NNOF Frank Thomas or were they not in the factory sets?
I have no idea where they were usually found.

thanks for the responses

No confirmed reports of factory set issuance; all evidence supports early run wax.

As mentioned already, no known cases of the NNOF Thomas, but I've found other players missing small portions of black ink in factory sets.

If you do open your set, I'd be interested in the yellow Topps Magazine advertisement insert that's included in every factory set. PM me if you'd like to sell it.

Ross, I am pretty sure I read one of your old, old posts on another forum somewhere where you said you had questioned people back in the 1990s about where they pulled their NNOF Frank Thomas cards. I am also pretty sure you stated that their responses indicated they were pulled from rack pack cases...and that those cases each produced 3 to 5 NNOF Thomas cards. Do you no longer believe any of that based on my recent findings?

You'd have to show me the quote Joe. If I typed that it was a mistype as everyone I've ever questioned had pulled them from wax.

    Just found it:
It's assumed that a strip of card stock some how blocked the transfer of the black...I'd like to see the cards that were to the left and under the Thomas card to see if they're blackless on some portion.

It's been my understanding that they were early released racks in the New England area. Mid-West and California distribution doesn't seem to have included NNOFs.

    edited to add:

In 1993 or so when I was questioning the people who had pulled these, it appeared secondary distribution centers were in Upstate NY and Maryland. So, maybe the largest orders that included the NNOF were sent to dealers in these regions.

And for what it's worth, I think there were 250ish produced.

    edited to also add...

It appears the rack cases that included NNOF had 3-5 of this variant per case...the rest were standard.
Yeah, that was just a mistype by me. There are much older posts explaining what I thought I knew at the time in which I said wax only. I think I probably subconsciously typed racks as the post above mine mentioned rack packs.

Thanks Ross. Everything else written there matches my findings....as I pulled 4 NNOF Thomas cards from my case. If they were pulled from rack packs there certainly would have been many more 9s and even some 10s. My 4 NNOF Thomas cards pulled from wax packs all received grades of 8. Two I believe are due to centering and the other two due to a tiny speck of gum stain on the back.
  • hot damn! got me excited there for a minute! lol
