At least two folks obviously appreciated the toning on this top pop Franklin and were not afraid to express that appreciation in bid amounts. (Bidding War)
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I guess I needed to login... So, PCGS price guide is $4,250 and this coin sold for $10,925. Who says toning doesn't pay?

Any coin can sell for multiples over price guide since all it takes is two determined bidders.
There is nothing as exciting as watching 2 nuclear snipes go off within seconds of each other.

If i had that kind of disposable income i would rather buy one of PauPaul's rainbow frankie than that so called whats the description again? Spectacular toned franklin? I think i need new glasses since i don't see why its Spectacular toned . Just my two cents...or rather my Fifty cents.
I didn't have a chance to see that one (that portion of the auction had already concluded by the time I got to Sacto). Given my known love for toned Franklins, and 1958 coins in particular, I've been offered MS67FBL '58's with IMO better toning than this for ~$5,000 in the last couple of years. IMO they had iffier FBL's than this one, but were still within reason for the slabbed designation.
I think everyone here has hit the nail on the head... 2 bidders going for Registry points. Hey, if they're happy with the coin, more power to them. In any case one would assume the seller is happy.

There are probably dozens of 58 Franklins with nicer toning than that one. I think the price
was probably motivated by Registry points.
bingo ; this feller gets the cigar

I think that coin (1958-P PCGS MS67 FBL) just showed up on the LOR PCGS #5 Registry Set of Franklin Circulation Strikes.

I pay stupid money all the time for Gem Franklins - and I are smart
