$140 shipping for a card?

You're going to love this. This seller has listed this card as a BIN of ~ $200 for the past year. Yesterday, I noticed that he had just listed the card in an auction format with a starting bid of .99. I was getting ready to enter a bid and noticed that his shipping cost was $140. I figured that he forgot the decimal point between the 1 and 4 and e-mailed him to clarify. Well, here is the response that I received:

Auction

Dear greg_n_meg,

Greg,
That is how I make my reserve. What price were you looking to buy this for? I can adjust the shipping after the auction if the price is fair.
Thanks

So - he was waiting for an unknowing buyer to bid .99 and then force the person to pay $140 in shipping? I'm thinking of reporting him for charging excessive shipping fees. Thoughts?

Rgs,

It's knuckleheads like that who have caused eBay to implement their new "pay Final Value Fees on shipping" policy.

Please do report him to eBay....
  • How much were you looking to get the card for? I'd just speak to him to see if I could get the price that I was looking for... Then if you can't reach an agreement report it.

He MUST be reported IMO. In fact, he just was.

Jerry Grooms just died in 2008 or 2009 and this card is worth $35 to $40 tops. He probably has no idea what its worth and is fishing.

Yeah, just report him. He's one of the guys who wants to ultra inflate a price for no reason at all, and will probably be difficult to deal with...

You have this one right here for $60+3 shipping link

For 140 bucks you think he would offer better than standard shipping!

Of course, the new policy doesn't stop this; it only makes sure Ebay gets their cut.

Thank you for taking the time to report this listing for violation of
    our Excessive Shipping Charges policy.

We are working hard to combat the practice of excessive shipping charges
on eBay and very much appreciate your help in identifying sellers who
you believe are charging excessively for shipping. Please continue to
report these types of listings to us. We can only clean up this problem
    by working together.

Ebays continual tweaks have driven people to this. Its not to say that theyre right to charge excessive amounts for shipping, but ebays new policy doesnt address that issue, it just makes sure that ebay now gets a cut OF that issue. Instead of going after those people who do that, they have chosen to "blanket screw" everyone, which is basically what EVERY ebay policy change has done
