What can you tell me about this 48-D Lincoln?

gyocomgdgyocomgd Posts: 2,582 ✭✭✭
It's detritus, really, part of a bunch of coins I acquired in my first transaction ever. Lincoln cents aren't my cup of tea and it's sat in a box for I guess five years now.
It looks quite bright in hand, and no distractions other than the spot opposite Abe's forehad, and a blemish (not sunk into the coin's surface) in back of head. The hazy stuff coming down from his beard is a camera artifact.
Is the piece worth hanging on to? Should I send it in for grading? Anything to do about that spot? Thanks for your help...

I'd hang onto to it and leave the coin as it is despite the spot. There's really no point in selling it since you most likely won't be able to get more than a dollar or two for it. Not worth grading.

Is this already in a slab? The spot will be long term fatal...notice the speck of something at the center and it's growing outward. It's really a 50 cent coin, so no big deal.
