In the short run, a strong yen would make their exports less competitive, but prices of Japanese exports are going to rise anyway because of shortages caused by destruction of productive capacity. They need to rebuild first, in order to enable their export industries to resume full production.

The Japanese stock market is stupid cheap--on a similar scale to US markets in 1980.

I know Mitsubishi and Sumitomo are amongst the biggest banks. They also have several large national banks.
Did you know that in terms of outstanding share and market cap value that the the Tokyo Stock Exchange is the largest in the world.? NY is second and Osaka Japan is third.
