The first time the US has been been part of a currency intervention since the Clintion Administration (eyeroll/chuckle).

This explains the 3% reversal today.............MJ

I think weakening the yen is counterproductive for the Japanese. A strong yen would make it cheaper for them to import the massive amounts of raw materials and energy that they will need for rebuilding.

In the short run, a strong yen would make their exports less competitive, but prices of Japanese exports are going to rise anyway because of shortages caused by destruction of productive capacity. They need to rebuild first, in order to enable their export industries to resume full production.

Does JPM have an affiliate in Japan? Who are the big banks in Japan, anyways? I can't help but wonder how closely they work with our bunch of jackals.

The Japanese stock market is stupid cheap--on a similar scale to US markets in 1980.

I know Mitsubishi and Sumitomo are amongst the biggest banks. They also have several large national banks.

Did you know that in terms of outstanding share and market cap value that the the Tokyo Stock Exchange is the largest in the world.? NY is second and Osaka Japan is third.

All bankers are jackals by trade. It's just how it is.

I 100% agree with chumley and cohodk.

The YEN is now down 10% vs the dollar in the last 2 1/2 weeks and below the 200dma.

That spike higher may just be the end of the 20 yr rally as I thought. We'll know for sure in 10 years.image
