Are the Greatest 100 modern coins, by any chance, the 100 modern coins that have produced the greatest revenue for them? If my company had slabbed 100,000 of a given coin, I would be pretty proud of it.

And now they hope to slab them all again with the new label!

One of the authors essentially told me that he fully expects the rankings to change with the next edition of the book (assuming there is one). Just as he described the rankings changing edition to edition on the "greatest classic coins" in that book (as they did). So, you will have a modern coin ranked 32nd on your holder and the coin may be 49th the following year or 23rd? Maybe you could collect a slab with every different ranking number on your favorite coin as that coin changes rank with each passing edition of the book!! Sells a lot of coins!!

Some one will have to author 'The 100 Greatest Slab Varieties' book!
I think this attempt to disseminate knowledge (imperfect as it might be at this time) is right up there with the "ploy" to put VAM's, Overton varieties Fivaz-Stanton classifications, and a host of other very occasionally useful (except for specialists) information on the label itself.
My guess is that this "ploy" may well stimulate a desire to explore such taxonomic investigations. Some new participants in these areas might well be expected. Maybe Vol. #2 will be even better. But that must be a ploy to sell more books. Submissions in these areas may increase. The term is "value-added."
Our hosts were the first that I recall to use this term, and they did it, and their quality servicing of that concept shows up in more was than I can list.
Pop reports, registry sets, CoinFacts and JD's counterfeit and grading guide are great examples of this.
The obsessives who speak Oxman-Fey have no need of a "Top 100" notation. Maybe a few who don't yet know that lingo will at least be more aware that another organized area of knowledge is open to them. Every player will benefit from the disagreements and new information.
This must be stopped before it spreads.
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." - Geo. Orwell
I'll save my comments on the validity of the effort after I've seen the list/read the book.
But, IMO, fresh marketing attempts do create market stimulus and do draw new people to the hobby. Thus it is far less likely to hinder the hobby than to encourage it. And that is a good thing.
