Although I think I looked at the coin, I do not remember it. If in fact it is an MS62-63 that might not actually be a bad price.
I know that the ex-Norweb piece is PCGS graded only MS62 but is a superior strike with excruciating detail and would expect it to bring in excess of this - maybe 3 - 3.5k.

A great date and denomination that IMO is still underpriced, what say you?

Funny that my experience with pedigreed coins from big collectors is that they are often overgraded. I've seen several Eliasberg world gold coins in overgraded slabs, and I owned for a while an Ionian islands 1848 30L, the key date of the series, ex- Pittman PCGS MS62, but the coin was really an AU55 at best by US standards, or EF-gEF by British standards. At least the pedigree comes handy when it's time to sell them. I now own a truly fantastic non pedigreed PCGS MS65 pop 1/0 with second behind it the Pittman coin. Sorry for the OT remark, but I couldn't resist it.

    Pittman MS62 coin:
you don't have to know the series to see the wear on Britannia or the hairlines and lack of luster

The funniest thing is that both coins cost me the exact same amount, the Pittman in 2000 at auction and the MS65 in 2007 in a private deal.

Well, I am not the endall grader but the strike on the Norweb 1905 shilling was superior, toning not ugly but not pleasant either. Very very minor hairlines nothing like what our Noble Greek has shown us ( uhh, wait Syracuse - Italian too?) on the above. I would have been very tempted to go 63* on the shilling from Norweb.

I think that's a strong price for that coin, of course I was only looking at the images and did not see the coin in hand or discuss with them by phone. Having said that it's a very tough date so you never know until the sale day. It does appear I won a couple of George III bits though, the 1788 6d Obv. die trial and the 1817 proof 6d.

Ok, maybe I paid over the top a bit, but you only live once.

I thought you paid a bit OTT too for the unface, less so for the proof. But it wasn't as silly as lot 167. I was going to go to 400ish, but someone asked to start the lot at 800. Needless to say he got it. Prices were strong enough to say we should be buying up all the crap on ebay and consigning it to sales such as these, because in essence it was a nondescript sale with no real gems to attract people. I think prices were strong because there was so little material to buy that was worth having. I didn't buy anything and left after the first section as I was only in for two lots.

    Wow-

Makes me wonder about the 1905 1/2 crown and Florin

The shilling will have the florin beat on the 1905 date, but the 2/6 in Brit GEF or at least PCGS 62/3 would likely be U-G-L-Y. How bad? I think 8-10k in pounds for a good specimen (IMO).
