Received a coin yesterday...

And I should have gotten a picture of the envelope it came in. A very large padded envelope, with 61 stamps on it, a combination of 11 and 13 center's.

It was just a bit of Swiss bullion so nothing special.

    Haha, that's pretty neat.
  • I've gotten those Jeff-the stamps almost covered the envelope.

In fact they were so varied, and so colorful, I sent the envelope to our grand daughter for her scrap book.

    Value received.....image

Always enjoy receiving those types of packages from overseas. An added bonus to the coin! image

  • Yeah, gotta love the boxes wrapped in stamps. Some other 'bonuses' I've received from some random ebay Germany sellers:
    - Cereal boxes, catalogues or newspapers as wrapping or padding, some interesting reading.
    - Postcards from the town the seller lives in.
    - A 1 year old copy of Moneytrend Magazine, an excellent price reference for German coins.
    - A mintfresh East German 2 Mark coin marked "gratis", still my best example of this type.
All of these made the order that bit more special.

I personally think postcards to all international (and maybe domestic as well) buyers would be a great idea, would add to the story of the coin to know a bit about the place it comes from.
Still thinking of what to put in my signature...

You'll frequently see this when purchasing/trading material from stamp dealers and collectors. They buy old bulk postage at 50-70 cents on the dollar and use it for outgoing parcels. I've saved all sorts of package fronts that have plate blocks, partial sheets, gutter pairs, etc. It's a good way to get modern high-denomination values as well, which can actually be worth something.

    Here are some I've received:

Here is a front and back of the same parcel:

At least on the one I received it only had the front covered, nothing on the back. That was an amazing mailing job they did.

Wow! Coinpictures' grandchildren will be so thankful the day that they'll liquidate all his stuff. image

I try doing that with the enveloppes I'm sending, but they are never as big as these. I might try sending larger enveloppes with minisheets or various different lower values from now on.

So Jeff, you didn't throw away yours, did you? 61 stamps? image

I received an envelope containing some Belgian coins from a French coin dealer in May 1965.

Sent by: George Ury, 54 Avenue Foch, Paris 16, France

If anyone knows anything about him, please let me know.

It's gone Syracusian, wife had a good chuckle about it and in the bin it went. She already thinks I collect too much crap.

Those wives. Do they ever throw away their shoes?

I love the old Hilton sticker in that 1965 envelope. Cool item. Neatly placed stamps that remind me of letters from France in my youth, nice graphic character. image
