What is the best way to get from New York City to Cooperstown? Family is planning a vacation this summer and cant decide if it is possible to visit Cooperstown for one day or just catch another Yankees game.

Thanks

I would think it would be tough to do it in one day. Are you talking about an overnight trip or doing it all in one day? You are probably looking at an 8 hour round trip.

was trying to do it all in one day...Probably just do a tour of the new yankee ballpark and see another game. Currently we have tkts to the oldtimers game in sect 227a on 6/28.

Good Choice ... I think doing it all in one day would be a good way to PUNISH yourself ... NOT reward yourself with a nice vacation!

Cooperstown is about 200 miles from Manhattan (aka The City), but don't let that deceive you -- it's not a straight run on a major highway that you could go 65-70. I'm guessing it's a 5 hr trip (one way)

Could you do it in a day, maybe.

You could also check the bus schedules that go out of Port Authority in the City.
  • Take 17 virtually the entire way up. Be careful, as 17 is almost always littered with cops using deceptive (and thus, morally deficient) techniques to prey on unsuspecting motorists who might be driving 1-5mph over the posted limit. They love hiding in the trees and behind those big orange portable message boards. And they know where the hills and curves are that will prevent a radar detector from providing sufficient warning.

George Washington bridge or the Tappan Zee bridge work just as well as the Lincoln Tunnel if you prefer.

Don't do the entire round trip in one day. A one-night stay is sufficient.

My buddy and I were driving from Louisiana to Connecticut (don't ask) a few weeks ago.

We had to decide at Harrisburg, PA whether to go north to Cooperstown, or turn east and go up the coast. We were at Harrisburg around 8 AM, and we went for it!

There are tons of B&Bs and hotels near Cooperstown, and there's some stuff in Oneonta(?) right down the road. Definitely go, go to the HOF, and spend the night. There's a huge lake that looks like it is wonderful when the weather is nice, so you could just make two days out of it.

We were the only people at the HOF that afternoon. Place is ridiculous!

    Good luck!

Im sure you made up your mind by now not to go. Just to make it worse imagine hitting any traffic going in or out of NYC. Could make a long trip an extra hour or so.

Hey we all take it up the tailpipe. Some of us don't have to like it. If you don't think traffic tickets are big business, then you're the one who is Crazy.

    Dude

I never said anything about it not being big business, (I will now) it ain't. Also, do you really
believe that a cop would issue a citation to a motorist going 1-5 mph over the limit?
    On Rt 17 no less!

That BS blog you linked is just that, BS. Fines collected go to a municipalities general fund.

Why did they ever take civics out of the schools?

    Good for you.
