Questions on selling 90% silver

I just realized that I am not up on the fine points of selling 90% silver. Suppose I had 10 90% silver half dollars. If the melt value of a half is $13 (based on a spot price of $35.85), they would contain $130 of silver. If I sold the 10 halves to a coin dealer, what should I expect to receive? I assume I could get more on ebay? I am also assuming that almost all half and quarter dollars are worth more in melt value than the numanstic (sp?) value.

Most fair dealers are paying anywhere from 22X-24X face.

yeah, but the fees will probably kill you.

Most people prefer Halves, but Quarters and Dimes are worth the same in terms of dollar amounts and silver content.
Edited to add: didn't read the question properly. Depending on if they are common date circulated then yes, the silver value outweighs the numismatic value.

Try the BST thread on the Precious metals forum or the regular BST forum if you want to sell. ~24X-25X face shipped seems to be the going rate nowadays.

You could ask a local dealer what he would pay.....my guess is considerably less than you could get on Ebay. Prices are crazy right now for silver.

go to a local coin show where there are a lot of dealers. They are more competitive in that scenario.

I got offers to buy from dealers from 17x - 24x 8 days ago at a show and the price of silver was comparable to today's price. Of course I took the 24x.

If there are no local shows, then call around to local dealers and see what they will pay.

If you go the Ebay or BST route, the fees and mailing expenses will eat you up.

Add your shipping to you final lot price it's not that complicated.

Low ballers wanting it delivered too, pass them by plenty good folks buying on BST.

You can send up to 70#'s in a small flat rate box. If they want it insured make sure to add that to 90% lot.

Gas prices today for me cost more than USPS shipping.

There are + & -'s to every situation please DO NOT let recent actions by wanna bee dealers discourage posting on BST.

My 2 cents & JMO ~ Peace, Tim

I'd put it on BST and wait for an acceptable offer. Considering ebay fees and lowball local dealer offers, you will do better on BST or a coin show. Any numismatic premium would of course depend on the specific rarity and condition of a coin, but in all likelihood, your 90% silver is probably common. When in doubt, consult someone who does know.
