I was watching Hockey Night in Canada last night and on
Coaches Corner, Don Cherry made reference to a hockey player who played in the 1970's and bought gold with all his extra money.
Question.....What type of gold was the mint striking in the 70's ? Or was this guy just buying up all older gold ?

There were plenty of gold coins around in the 70's including Canadian commems, Mapleleaf's, Kruggerrands, British soverigns, Austrian 100 coronas, Mexican 50 pesos, old U.S. gold coins, etc. The first U.S. gold coins since 1933 were the 1984 L.A. Olympic commems.

that he used all his extra money to buy gold back in the 70's, but didn't mention what kind of gold. Being that he was
Canadian, perhaps he was buying leafs.
also mention Bobby Hull "The ________ Jet".
<< <i>Are you sure it wasn't "Bobby Ore???"
Yogi Berra
Perhaps he bought some gold too!
Not to get off track from the OP's statement, Gold Krugerrands and English Sovereigns were the most common purchases back then.

<< <i>How about 'Bill Goldsworthy' from the 1970's (I think).
Perhaps he bought some gold too!

<< <i>Even though Bobby did play for the Blackhawks in the late 70's, I'm suprised you didn't

I thought about him, but figured that "Ore" was the better punchline......
