I just received these 3. Two are shooting medals, this first one, I initially thought was. Its a wonderful piece in hand. Anyone have a clue what this is about and scarcity?

  • Neat medal, is that Napoleon on the obverse? The medal looks Swiss, and all I have for you is that it translates to July 30-31 and August 1, and commemorates some event or reunion in Geneva, for the officers of the Swiss confederation. Not much help, I know, I'd wait for the experts to respond on this one.

I believe the statue is Guillaume-Henri Dufour, commander-in-chief of the federal army during the 1847 civil war in Switzerland. He also was co-founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (1864).

Presumably, that is why he is on a medal referencing the Swiss Confederation.
