I sold an 8.5 by auction about a year ago for a little over $100. I don't think a 9 is now worth nearly six times what an 8.5 was worth a year ago. Looks to me like some wanted a 9 RIGHT NOW. Wish I'd had one to sell him.
Always looking for vintage White Sox cards at reasonable prices.
<< <i>I know. Its hard to tell for sure if it is legit sale or not. >>
I'm sure its a legit sale. Your missing my point. Just because there is one buyer with more money than brains, and he decides to pull the trigger on a $599 BIN, doesnt mean that card is now worth $599. I think your looking at $400 range market for the card, that will spike as he approaches 3000 hits, and achieves that milestone, and ultimately cool back off.
<< <i>I wouldnt say someone pulling the trigger via BIN is indicative of the market on that card >>
No it doesn't, but with 74 hits away from 3000 his card will explode for a short time in early June. Maybe the buyer thinks this card will hit the $700 mark. I don't think so, but it is Derek Jeter and a lot of people are in love with him.

I didnt deny that the price of his cards will increase as he gets closer to 3000 hits. I think the buyer probably wanted the card immediately and was not willing to wait on the next auction. It will be fun to watch Jeter RC's come out in droves when he gets closer to 3000 hits.
You may not buy into the intrinsic value but too a specific buyer it was worth it. I just checked and there no PSA 9 Jeter SP Rookies on EBAY. If you are a card bull this is what you want. No supply.
Once it comes clearly prices remain in check. The market has spoken and clearly PSA graded cards are selling for much more then most BGS cards.
I don't own a single one of these cards but I hope this baby launches for the Jeter die hards!!
The buyer didn't know how to properly shop for his best deal, and as a result, spent a lot more money than he needed to. ThePit.com has one for $475 right now.

People often say here that a card "is worth what someone is willing to pay for it." So, now someone pays $599 for a card, and it's not worth $599?

Not what I meant, I meant the debate over it's 'value' and 'worth' it's not like the spread is that far skewed, especially with baseball season right around the corner and his reaching 3000 hits.
Also, fwiw the person that bought it, regards 599.00 as chump change.
I actually like his description -- wish more eBay sellers took the time to write informative and detailed (o.k., also completely HYPED) descriptions like this...
Looks like boxes have sold recently in the low $300's. Anyone have experiencing opening one of these boxes??
I have twelve Sports Cards videos on youtube w/ over 75,000 views in total!! Vintage cards like 1951 Mantle, 33 Goudey Ruth, T206 Cobb, etc (copy and paste link below):
The odds aren't good in those boxes. I was lucky to pull one every other box. I am sure there are examples where people might have pulled more then one. I know out of 6 boxes I got 3. Also it is worth mentioning the 3 I pulled wouldn't grade over a psa 7. The card is tuff because it will either have corner issues or surface issues due to the card being easily damaged foil.
Personally, I think it's at least a month too early to be maxing out on this card... At least I hope so because I'll be popping a few up when Jeter gets to 2990-2995...
Scott - I agree. This card will rocket when he is close to the 3,000 mark. I also will be selling off a lot of cards I have. I plan on keeping the basic set and the rookies but selling off the rest. I think I should do pretty well. NYers will drive the prices up and up.
We should see a huge spike in the 93 SP card like when his 2007 Topps #40 card was talked about on espn. The gold version psa 10 graded sold for $2,200 when it was pop2. The second sold for around $1,800. 4 years later that gold card is now a pop 3 and I have one. I am seriously thinking about selling it along with the psa 10 red back that I have (also a pop 3). I wish I had the copper version but every copper I have seen has sold for over $10,000 which is way out of my budget.

BIN arent what a card is worth

For you maybe but for me it will make it more cards to weed through. Making it harder for me to find the cards I am missing for the basic set
PS edit add: I also never said the card was worth over $500. I said it went over the 500 mark as I have not seen one sell for over that much ever.

I sold mine on that site last year for $510.

The card basically traded for between 465.00 and now 599.00 over the past year.
According to that site 467 of them sold which is a decent sample size.
Not sure I fully understand the debate here.
Frank, if a pre war card did basically the same thing because of an extenuating circumstance
would you still feel the same way?

Hit it right on the head...
It will be interesting to see PSA 9s for the next few months. Wow, some crazy money !

I've got an UD that I'll be selling in June.

I don't know about you, but $90-130 is a pretty nice chunk of change to me.

Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed!!
- I would encourage all collectors to post a video of their collection - I have found it to be a very rewarding way to share my sports cards!!
My son pulled one back in 1993 and it was a 6 at best. I still have it and will do a separate scan to show perhaps.
I think they may have been generous with the grading - in terms of the surface IMO. But, the corners look good.

Wonder if it will go over 500
I guess I will find out in a few minutes...
