Entertaining Ebay Seller - The Charlie Sheen of Vintage FB

So, this guy has been trying to sell his lot of 1935 National Chicle Football for MONTHS. All of his previous auctions have been without pictures, and with his negative feedback for overgrading his cards, big surprise, no one was biting. Well, his auction is back up (Now With Pics!) but, the best part is that he's very impatient with bidding. If bids aren't up near his idea of what his "treasure" is worth, he starts getting really irritable in his comments.

Looks like he's started getting annoyed already:

<< <i>Come on now. Lets pick up the Bidding here. I just bought the Masterson PSA 3 for $443.00 on EBAY last week. And in 2 days I have a Bid for $510.00 for all 33 cards. What is going on here? Dont think you will get this item for cheap. If you pay the $6,250.00, I am asking for the 33 cards, that is a deal in itself. Thats the reality here. I have to pay EBAY FEES, Paypal Fees. Where is the Love for the Hobby? When did we Become this Cheap. Please dont Bid, unless you are using common sense. Not everyone can afford these items, as a matter of fact, not many people can afford them. Thats ok. I am a winner whether I sell or not. These cards will increase greatly in value. Regards, Richie >>

Save this one in your watch list and check in regularly for entertaining updates.

Enjoy.

I just checked through the "feedback left for others" by the known hater, and this was the only instance of them leaving negative feedback. I do like the conspiracy theory, though.

    Dear Richie,

There is no longer love for the hobby. However, there is plenty of lust. I would like to get your cards drunk and stoned, and then take advantage of them while they are vulnerable.

That's what it means to be a WINNER.

    Regards,

  • Hopefully he takes some of the winning bid money and buys a scanner.
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

I thought your post was going to be about Chas Sheen the collector. At one time a few years back he had a very impressive PreWar Baseball card collection that included big $$ cards (ie 1933 Goudey Lajoie etc.).

I actually sold a D314-4 DiMaggio card to Sheen many years ago when he was still active in card collecting.

Funny, what an idiot, start the biddiing at $6,250 then you fool!!!

Plus he didnt put a reserve so the only way he can hold out for that $6,250 is to cancel auction near the end or renig....

  • I live about 40 minutes from the seller, sent Richie an email requesting to see them in person and moreover to check out this "winner"...this could be fun!

  • I must be an Ebay novice, I didn't notice his reserve on this item. I would think if someone report this it has to get pulled.

I do not just pull these items out of my safe for anyone. I do not think I am going to end up selling these cards this auction anyway, unless someone spends the $6,250.00, thats the value of these cards. we could set up a meeting here in Mount Airy at the Pages Book store. The dude has got serious issues.....if he wanted to run a reserve auction, he should have listed it as one! And he had the nerve to call the BIDDERS cheapskates....it sounds to me like he is one! Are these cards even worth $6,250????

i just threw out a low offer ($50) for this pele card. I think the card is in terrible condition and is a psa 1 and not worth 100 bucks in that kind of shape.... well the seller took it pretty personal and banned me from ever bidding on any his auctions and told me to never bid or make offers to him again.. yikes!! I totally get that he thinks i made a low ball offer.. but a simple decline or even auto decline for anything less than a certain amount would have been fine. for kicks feel free to throw some offers at this jerk

  • He now has this lot listed twice at the same time.

I finally learned how to do links on these boards.

He's in Mount Airy, North Carolina.

Isn't that where Barney Fife lives?

I Like the guy too. I also like the Winnebago man, heck if I hit the Lotto I will buy a winnebago & drive it to pick up my 33 of 36 1935 Chicle FB set. We need more sellers like this, and less bottom feeders. Now forget about both these guys and go bid on my auctions bid often and bid high at least double book. bid bid bid bid .imageimage

i think sellers like this are stupid. The market dictates what something is worth. Ebay is a huge market and is a pretty good indicator of fair value. It is the purest way to determine what some is worth. If this clown thinks his cards are worth 6k but the highest bid is 3k then he is over valuing his cards by about 100%. All this guy needs to do is put a reserve on the auction and there is no problem. I respect that people think their cards worth X but the fact of the matter is X isn't what the card is worth, it is the price the seller wants to sell at. This is no different if i put a box of 1990 pro set on ebay and said i'm not selling this for less than 1000 dollars. What i think something is worth is irrelevant it only matters what the market thinks.

This seller is a fool, in that in addition to running an improper auction, he now has it listed twice. I am not sure who is the bigger fool however - this seller and his screwed-up auctions, or Ebay for allowing them to run!
  • The seller is wrong, those cards are worth $6,233.42.

They lived in Mayberry (Mount Airy) and used to drive to Mount Pilot for the entertainment/night life.

Remember, this guy associates with the likes of Floyd the barber, Otis the drunk, Goober the mechanic, and Gomer Pyle. That's a pretty exclusive club...

Yes, Barney began the series in Mayberry, towards the end he moved to Mt. Pilot.

That was what I was alluding to.

Edited to add: Or are you saying Mayberry was based on Mt. Airey?

Because, as you probably know many do believe that.

    Good for you.

Mt Airy believes it. There are Mayberry references all over town. I live nearby, and I have seen many nice buildings and educated people that have electricity and indoor plumbing and everything. No sign of Floyd, Goober, or anyone like them. If those days ever actually existed, they are long gone.
