top athletes invest in MLS ....

There is a growing trend with different athletes investing in Major League Soccer:

- Oscar De LaHoya (boxer) - Houston Dynamo
- Steve Nash (basketball player) - Vancouver Whitecaps
- Lance Armstrong (cyclist) - Sporting Kansas City

Livestrong (Armstrong Charity) just paid for the naming rights to the new stadium in Kansas - with 25% of the proceeds going to the charity.

Nash really should have tried to play MLS. He probably had the skills earlier in his life....maybe not so much at his age now(37).
  • Unfortunately, Pete Rose bet on the wrong horse ... indoor (yuk) is not soccer anymore than badmitten is tennis.

For soccer purists it is useless. Its just not soccer.

Martin Nash's brother has played for Vancouver Whitecaps for some time an has been an all-star a few times. Martin had contemplated playing two sports a few times, but Vancouver have played in many leagues since the NASL folded (1984). They were Canadian Champs and USL Champions (2nd division). Now they back in the top league again.

They are in a hotbed of soccer in the Norrthwest - Seattle Sounders (35,000 season ticket holders), and Portland (up from USL) have sold out their season tickets in 1st MLS year.
