Did Brooklyn ever have jerseys with BLUE numbers on the front?

I just won an auction for this great Topps Sterling card of Jackie Robinson. The more I look at it though, the more the image of Jackie looks kind of funny.

Did they ever have blue numbers on the front? Or did Topps mess up the coloring of a 55 jersey? And they sure did butcher his hat!

  • Alot of the gu/relic/whatever say "no particular game/event" does it say that anywhere on the back?

I pulled a Chester Taylor 1/1 that had a viking logo patch but in bears uni boy did that confuse me

I know the relics do not come from the jersey pictured, I am just wondering if Topps messed up on the coloring of the jersey? There are very few color photos of Robinson, so the card companies have to colorize black and white photos. I just think they messed up on the red numbers and made them blue. I have never seen blue numbers on a Brooklyn jersey before.

Great catch! Between 1947 and 1951 no they did not, In 1952 they did but the numbers were in red (home only)

In 1958 they began using numbers on Home and away jerseys but by then Jackie was gone.

    Good for you.
  • Oh, I misunderstood the question, thought you meant the actual relics.

I think Steve got your answer

I agree, I think they just messed up coloring an existing B&W picture of him

  • This is what I have a problem with. If the card companies are going to make a "game used card" they need to make it with right jersey. I have been looking for "game used" cards on ebay and all I can find is a card pictured with the wrong jersey. I wish these companies would have a quality control department and issue these cards with the right jersey. I am a Dino Ciccarelli fan and looking through his game used cards I find that they (Topps, Upper Deck etc.) use his Capitals, Red Wings, Panthers, Lightings jersey and have a picture of him in his North Stars jersey on the card. Its makes me upset that they can't get the poto of him in a jersey with the right jersey swatch.

Sorry, but as a vintage guy, I find any mention of Topps and quality control in the same paragraph to be very funny.
