Does anyone collect Minerals?

I started another hobby... Minerals! I am trying to find nice small cabinet specimens to display in a cabinet at my house... Does anyone recommend a online site to purchase them from? Or any on line forums devoted to collecting Minerals?

  • I don't collect them, but they do look interesting. I have a buddy at work who gets Coin World, and last month had some advertisement on them, if I recall.

Apparently I have that issue. The Arkenstone can be found at irocks.com.

From about 9 years old on. I have wood boxes in the garage labeled "Rocks" . My wife thinks I am nuts.
Every so often I pull a box out and carefully pull out my neat rocks to look at and admire. Where ever I travel
in the desert or mountians I am always looking for my next prize.image

I used to collect fossils and minerals and have a box full at my mom and dad's house I never took with me and they've never tossed. When I was a kid we used to hit the bluffs and cliffs around here and chisel out fossils from the cliffs.

My wife's two granfathers worked at a fluorspar mine for decades in Hardin Co, IL. They both have a ton of suvenirs from their career. One of my wife's grandfathers has a full stump of petrified wood. They've also collected those hollow rocks with crystals on the inside in their finds through the years. Geodes I think? They both also have some of the funkiest fluorite crytals I've ever seen.

Thanks for your post. I'm reminded now that I have boxes of minerals, rocks, and fossils in my cabinet. I give this hobby attention during the summer and fall seasons...unless I travel south for the winter.

Oh, and where does my wife's grandfather store his petrified stump? Outside on the front steps!!! I wonder how much he could get for that thing.

I recommend the House of Onyx.
Dealt with them over many years. It's where I bought my coprolite.
