I couldn't resist buying this photo of a Tokyo Giant player just so I could solve the mystery of who he is and what the timeframe of the pic is. I'm curious if the photo is signed, too.



Can anyone provide some insight? I bought this today at an antiques show at the Portland (OR) Expo Ctr and came close to asking a couple dealers of Japanese items to interpret for me, but they were too busy...

Looks like a young Shigeo Nagashima, who played third base for the Giants from 1958-1974

I'll second what pomobileclk said, I think it's Nagashima too. If Sadaharu Oh was the Babe Ruth of Japan, Nagashima was the Lou Gehrig and a Hall of Famer.

WoW! I never expected to learn the ID of this player, but not only did I get all my questions answered, the same photo (card?) appears on the linked-to website!

FYi, this card is a blank-backed photo and is app. 5 1/4" tall and 3 3/4" wide. I found it in a book of postcards, so it's close in size to that...
