What to do with 250,000 commons?

I would like to move about 250,000 commons, all sports. Any ideas?
I was thinking of separating them into teams and try to get rid of them that way.
They range from the early 80's to now. Including premium type cards.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Donate them. I donate unwanted cards to local charities every year and get to write them off my taxes.

  • I don't remember if the magic number was $150 or $250, but basically got a card shop owner you know or someone to write something up and basically say the cards are worth X amount, and donate "chunks" to goodwill or boys and girls club etc.

I don't know how it is where you are but here there are some pawn shops that you can get over on with a buttload of cards.... I sold 40000 commons for $150 one time (late 80's early 90's junk) - stuff I would have been happy to give away.
  • Send them to me , I have 100's of sets in all sports im trying to finish....image

I bought a large collection i planned on going thru for TTM's when i realized there were 100's of near sets.

Pull out the 1990 Topps baseball and make sure you don't have any rare errors.

I've got over 100,000 commons in my storage building and am currently trying to sort through another 50,000 (guesstimate) in my room of doom. image

No Goodwill in site. No local charities and if there was they probably wouldn't want this mess either. So just the other day to see if I could actually do it, I grabbed a box of 91 Topps and chucked them in the fire image. image

No feeling ill or anxiety over doing it and that's one less box I got to deal with. Now just need to sort the rest and decide the best method for getting rid of them.

Why do superheros only hang out in New York or L.A.? Why not Bangor??
  • I live in Phoenix, Az and I sell my commons 500 at a time in a local auction that is held once a week. I usually put them in every two weeks. I usually make between 10-15 dollars for each 500 lot. I guess it's better than nothing. I also sell them at the monthly card show for 10 cents a piece. Won't make a killing on them, but at least they are moving.

I recycled 5 monster boxes worth of commons today. It broke my heart, but the local charities I called did not want them.

Probably for the best. Personally, I hate to burden the local charities with these. They aren't my garbage men after all.

My personal preference would be a shelter or an orphanage. Those kids have precious little to play with.

Why not wallpaper a room with cards? That beats hell out of burnin' them.

Cool idea. Sort of like a mature mans version of a "beer can wall" made of the empties...

A few years ago didn't someone post a pic of a garbage pail full of 90s cards?

I'd like any topps heritage commons
  • I'd have to guess that the ROI for commons are so small as to make them useless to keep. I essentially trash every common in the modern era. Maybe I'm doing my part to make them more valuable down the road, but even at that, no one is going to get rich off of them. At the same time they take up an insanely large amount of space compared to their value.

I can't think of a method of selling them that returns enough money as to warrent the time required to sort, list, and mail them. I would have to think that even making a .25c per lot over the shipping and handling charges would have to be considered a pretty good sales price.
