Why Does John Offerdahl Not Sign his 1987 Rookie?

John Offerdahl took my 1987 Rookie that I sent to be signed and I have heard of this happening a few times to people. Why does he not sign the 1987 Rookie and keep it for himself? His rookie is worth like 18 cents on Spotlots. Anyone ever get a Signed 1987 Topps John Offerdahl?

He does the same thing to me. I even sent $10 plus three extra rookies to keep and still swiped my rc. Who knows...

<< <i>Maybe he really likes the Super Rookie banner on the card. >>
Possibly, or maybe he's trying to corner the market for his rookie card. If that's the case, he has 10,000,000 more to swipe before he has them all!

<< <i>He's got restaurants, a full family life, and is still young. I get busy and I hardly have time to even return calls let alone get cards in the mail, sign them while my kids climb all over me, remember to take them to the post office. My guess - it's just a hassle and he just leaves them unopened knowing what they are. >>
John Offerdahl is great at signing fan mail, however the issue is that he almost always switches rookie cards with other cards that he has.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

<< <i>I guess my point is that there is no way he is "conspiring" to collect or steal rookie cards. I'm sure he just thinks its a hassle. Send him a nice letter, and yes - he'll respond. Send an envelope full of rookie cards to sign - yeah, I'll get to those "one" day. >>
I'm not trying to start a fight, but you've missed the point of this thread. No one is sending "envelopes full of rookie cards"...he replaces rookie cards that people send with other signed cards. Hope that clarifies.

<< <i>Hey ... it's better than losing a '52 Garagiola rookie!!!!! A couple people on this board have said that he does not return the card! There were some saying that his "mail handler" might be the person taking the Rookie card. >>
That's brutal - it's not like his rookie card is cheap! The same thing happened to me with Frank Gifford. I sent a 52 Bowman Small and I received back a 2001 Topps Heritage Flashback card.

<< <i>I forget who it was, but he only signed the card for his kids. >>
Wayne Gretzky will not sign his '88 Topps card (the one of him holding his new Kings' jersey). He signed one for his daughter and that was it.
You could always try asking him via Facebook:

Lets say he signs 100 of his cards that he already owns, a person sends him one for signing.
He simply takes one from his stash and sends that one back, is that possible?
I really can't see him just keeping them for himself. But who knows.
