1953 D Cent Mint Mark Location

I have two 1953 D cents but the mint mark on each coin is located slightly different on each penny. On one penny the D is centered between the 9 and 5 and the other penny has the D almost directly under the 5. Is this common?

Yes, they were hand-punched onto the dies back then.

Be sure to look close at the one with the D under the 5 (far east) because RPM-1 is in that location and RPM-2 is not far from it. Most of the non RPMs for that year are punched more to the west so I always give those 53-Ds with the far east D a second look.
