They're pretty. For the Topps issues, the white card stock and the gloss tends to make the cards look a little more vibrant. Make sure you get clean ones, I've seen some 84-86 Topps Tiffany cards that have yellowed a bit.

When I'm looking for someone's rookie card, I like to get the parallels than for the regular card. For chrome cards, I like refractors, and when glossy or tiffany versions are available, I go for those.

I also like that they have fairly modest print runs (compared to other cards from that era).

1984 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 10,000
1985 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 5,000
1986 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 5,000
1987 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 30,000
1988 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 25,000
1989 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 15,000
1990 Topps Tiffany base and traded: 15,000
1991 Topps Tiffany base and traded: <5,000

    1989 Bowman: 6,000
    1990 Bowman: 3,000

    1988 Score Glossy base: 5,000
    1988 Score Glossy Traded: 3,000

1987 Fleer Glossy base and update: 75k-100k

1989 Fleer Glossy base (no update was made): 30k

In my experience, that yellowing is a real problem with '85's.

Other than that, I like having deluxe versions of what can be somewhat drab base cards. As Rich writes, they just look more colorful and vibrant. I like cards from the Topps Traded sets for the same reason.

I prefer the regular issue. I remember these were sold in sets at Saks 5th Avenue... I've never been into paralleled cards...
    Enjoy your collection!

  • When I was a kid, I had only seen a Tiffany issue once in a great while... maybe an oddball in a friend's collection. I collect for nostalgic reasons... if I didn't collect it then, I won't collect it now. They look nice though!

ohhh i LIKE that line! Can i use it?

when i was a kid in the 80s, im sure there were Tiffany sets available, but i'd never have the coin for them. i collected T/D/F and the T/F Traded/Update Sets that i could afford (ie. all but that damned 84FU)
