Kudos to SM1 re: BST phantom sellers

coindeucecoindeuce Posts: 13,496 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm sure some of us here have become acutely aware of the trickle of phantom sellers arriving infrequently over on the U.S. Coins BST forum. It appears to be a trend mostly related to the spike in precious metals prices. It does require some common sense over there to apply the old adage of CYA, but it is nice to know that SM1 is proactively doing what he can to catch these cloak and dagger posers. Lets not drop our guard with these bums and afford our host the necessity for taking any of these forums to a subscription based membership that might not necessarily provide accountability. End of rant.

That was probably the exact expression on SM1's face when he saw the last listing he put on lock down. He's very passionate about stuff like this.

One BST post early today for bullion, and a similar post for a slabbed Saint earlier last week, same M.O. And some earlier priors with very similar context.

If a new member was selling a coin that I wanted, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it provided he sent me the coin first after which I would send payment.

That isn't the way it should work...why should they trust you? I like the BST just the way it is. If you are unsure about the seller use your credit card and pay through paypal.

Right on, and thanks SM1! I like doing business on the BST and want
to keep right on saying that! I hope that the "inner circle" keeps getting
bigger and bigger, but in the right way!

If one party can provide excellent references and the other party can't, the latter should be the one to take the risk of sending the item or check, first.

If a new BST seller with essentially no feedback can provide me with a littany of industry references going back 20 yrs, then I'd be happy to send payment first. If all they can provide is a reference from their local pawn shop, their dog groomer, or Bongo Bongo....I'd have to give them a pass.
