Sticker autos and the future: are they doomed?

I've read some predictions that the glue on the sticker would eventually dry up and the stickers would fall off the card.

Does this have any merit?

Any guess as to how long it'd take for this sort of problem to occur?

  • I would think it depends on the glue the companies used. All items in our hobby are susceptible to the environment we place them in. To answer your question, as long as you don't leave them outside, you should be good. Personally, for long term sake, I prefer on-card autos.

    I don't really know?

But I do know I don't care much for them.

    Good question.

  • Shouldn't be an issue as long as the card is not subject to undesireable environmental conditions such as extreme heat or moisture. There are postage stamps 150-200 years old that are still stuck to letters, plenty of magazines from the 50's and 60's with mail labels on them, and plenty of boxed items with price stickers you can't remove. It would be an interesting expirement for someone to take a now worthless former rookie prospect card and see how much abuse it can take.

I personally dont think their glue will last. But we'll see. I doubt they are spending big money on the best sticker glue money can buy.

I sell all of my sticker auto'd cards and any autos on leather such as sweet spot. We already see how UD used cheap leather and all the sigs are fading, even in good environmental conditions.
