Counterfeit? 3rd, 4th and 5th stars to right of date are mushy.

Does the coin display the light green color as it appears in the images? If so, I think it's AT.

The weak stars do not cause me to think it's counterfeit.

It looks genuine to me, too, but I would say environmental damage at 2:00 on the obverse. AU details other than that.

The obverse toning is a real negative IMO. It's a coin that I wouldn't have that much interest in even if I was satisfied as to its authenticity. The flat stars don't tell me much; thats common enough; but the mushy uncrisp rims most obvious on the reverse images @ 12 & 6 o'clock worry me on a coin with that little of wear. It 'supposedly' wouldn't have been circulated enough to expect that type of look on the coins 'third surface'.

Bottom line, its a coin I wouldn't think about buying for any price unless I either:
    1. Had it in hand to see how it reacted to light and to look at it closely under magnification, or;
    2. It had a no questions ask return privilige from a person I had already done business with and trusted.

    Coin is white.

I guess it's the background imparting a greenish hue to the coin.

I do not authenticate or grade from pictures, but it appears to have the major die characteristic of genuine coins, a small horizontal die scratch above the left talon on the eagle right (as you are looking at it) leg.

    It's real.

According to PCGS, it displays the following obverse and reverse genuine diagnostic markings.

****Obverse diagnostic for a genuine coin (circulation strikes only): large, slanted die polish mark in the right foot of the R in LIBERTY.

Reverse diagnostic for a genuine coin: short, horizontal dash inisde the lower left part of the triangle next to the eagle's right leg*****

I say AU53ish details from the pic, looks to have an x mark on the cheek- that and the possible environmental damage/dark toning at 1-2 o' clock lead me to believe it will end up in a genuine slab.

    Genuine.
    AU.
Would have to see in hand to judge any problems.
    When in doubt, don't.

If you think mushy stars means counterfeit, then you have a LOT to learn.

This coin is genuine, in fact the pics are good enough I can authenticate the coin from them easily. The thing that bothers me is how the encrustation is at 1:00 obv. It looks like it might be in the metal a little, not just on the surface. otherwise a decent solid XF or slightly better.

    Rule #3.

I'll quit learning when I'm dead. Glad you got it done so early.
