Note: This is an informative thread that introduces this board to and extraordinary autographed sports card find. It also introduces a new board member with whom I am partnering with on this collection. This find has been mentioned briefly in a previous thread in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.

The new board member's name is "thesultanofswat". He is getting ready to provide additional details regarding the collection in this thread.

  • Hey all and this is surely a great find that is worthy of posting. I purchased this along with Shane and with the help of a long time dealer friend of mine who helped facilitate this deal. Here is the brief history in a nutshell as well as our current progress on the project:
Patrick Meeker, with the help of friend Ben Peterson, began personally collecting pen signatures on trading cards in the 1970s by attending games throughout the Country and regularly meeting players. Having lived thoughout the Midwest and South, including Texas, Patrick was able to obtain a wider variety of signatures than hounds who did not travel as much. Patrick's collecting included baseball, football, basketball, hockey, golf, Olympic, and many other sports. Patrick was able to amass more than 100,000 autographed trading cards, all of which were signed between 7 and 40 years ago. It is one of the premier multi-sports autographed trading card collections in the United States.

Update: OK folks here is where we are at with this collection:
Currently working through the vintage pre 1975 baseball and football. The sports represented in this amazing collection include baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and golf amongst some others. There will be many minor league cards as well. We have been working feverishly for 6 weeks since the purchase of this collection and have submitted thousands to PSA/DNA for authentication and grading. There are some amazing signatures in this collection as you may imagine. Maris, Clemente, Mantle, Aaron, etc. These will take awhile to grade obviously and I am excited to see these in holders soon. We are currently going through the 1940s-1975 baseball and football up to 1990 right now. We will be offering cards separately in the appropriate Buy Sell Trade forums so you can check those over the next several days. The really neat thing about this collection is that with the vintage (pre1975) there is no duplication whatsoever. Whatever I have in vintage, Shane will not and vice versa. He will be handling primarily everything post 1975 in baseball, basketball, and football. I will be handling all of the strong and non-personalized signatures in everything pre-1975 and ALL hockey.

If anyone has any similar stories to share or even some advice for us please feel free to comment. I can be reached at ekekela08@aol.com.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hi Jason

    Welcome!

I don't collect auto's but do have many.

Nothing to say other than I wish and you and Shane the best.

Would sure like to see some scans once they come back from PSA/DNA - especially the "harder" sigs.

    image Jason...

I too look forward to seeing some scans of these autos when the come back. I'm not an auto collector, but have always found signatures interesting especially the vintage ones.

Good luck with the PSA/DNA results...
