Gretzky '79 OPC PSA 10 (1 of 1)

Did anybody else see that this card is coming up in the April SCP Auction? Any takers on how much that will go for? The card is a 1 of 1. I can't believe no one else has pulled a PSA 10.

Thanks for that link. This is the first time I've actually seen the card. Pretty amazing.

By the way, it's obviously a tough issue, but doesn't it seem a little off left to right for a PSA 10?

Scott you know way more about cards then me but I am guessing a super rich Canadian natural resource guy goes nuts and tops my $270,000 estimate. The Canadian dollar is up and so are there stock prices.

i got approximately 43/57 left to right, so technically it falls under the standards of a PSA 10 which is bs in my opinion. maybe my standards are to high, but i would like to think a gem mint copy of a card would apear centered side to side and top to bottom.

    I'm guessing between 200 - 250K.

The written standards for a 10 are 55/45 both T/B and L/R. That's not to say the standards are always applied uniformly.

The image must be centered on the card within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 to 60/40 percent on the front, and 75/25 percent on the reverse.

  • Wow, a quarter million estimate, eh? That's a lot different than $80K. I think it might gets 6 figures.....we should have a contest

Along those lines, does anyone know exactly how PSA measures that? They don't scan and digitize a card, so it has to be done using a scale or an overlay, right?

I personally think it's over valued and may not even break even. Then again, that's me.

So if this card goes for over $125,000 would that make it the largest price tag for a modern card ever? I remember a Tiger Woods SI Kids card in a PSA 10 selling for over $125,000 back in like 2001. If it does in fact go for over 100 grand - that's a pretty big deal for the sports card industry.

An '86 Fleer Jordan BGS 10 sold for I think $200K or so a while back.
