Weak obverse/strong reverse

Just got a coin with a completely mushy obverse and a sharp reverse and wondered how this happens. It seems like if it was die pressure alone the strike would be somewhat consistent on both sides. So how does this happen?

Jefferson Nickel, so a modern coin.
(40-S)
Check your coin to see if the details are just mushy like this one, or
if it might be broad struck in which case the details would appear differently.

The trial on my liveview software ran out and the box version is in the mail, so no pictures tonight. I will take some shots in a few days and resurrect this thread with pictures.
I look forward to seeing the coin.
