Heritage auction price question

Can anyone speculate or tell me why this coin hammered for much over the PCGS price guide? Just curious to know if there's something there I'm not seeing.

Seeing how an NGC example sold for $747.50 in the same auction and how another NGC 58 sold for just a bit less three years prior to your linked coin selling, I think the issue is more PCGS's price guide being a bit too low. Or perhaps the published value was higher in 2008.

I'm with the "price guide is too low" theory.

This is exactly the kind of coin that the price guides -- all of them -- miss the boat on.

Seated Liberty halves have been hot for awhile now. There seem to be several sets being built in the XF/AU grades.
