ATB 5 oz - Buy or Not to Buy @ $975?

If you were offered a set of the 5 ounce pucks from an authorized distributor/dealer, would you buy one at $975? Or has the shine worn off?

That's too much over melt for my taste.
  • I would buy it and flip it to moderncoinmart for $1450

  • In short--yes.

As Jim said, MCM is paying $1450. And if you're not looking for a quick flip, that's certainly not a bad deal either--but not as good as before.... I personally have my doubts if they'll reach $975 anytime soon on the secondary market.

However, I'm curious....reading between the lines a little... Which AP? Are they tracking bullion values with these now?

I'd buy it and flip it. I think there are at least a couple of months before the bloom is off the "average citizen" rose. We on the forum are spoiled because we get news as it happens, most people don't.

Nothing like that, an order that was originally cancelled by mistake is now corrected with the option to go through with it or have a refund. Just wondering what others would do in this situation.

Ahhh..sounds like AMARK prices. Well, especially if it is an AMARK, you will have no problem getting rid of it at $1400+ with MCM...no hassles. Go for it.

Absolute buy at $975. As mentioned, dealers are paying up to $1400-1450 at the moment for raw sets, and more for graded sets (even the BU ones).

FYI, MCM's Buy price for the Amarks is at $1535 sealed or opened...

I have noticed an upswing in the Amark/pcgs Bu pricing on the Bay, limited by caps.

    Good catch.

I've noticed that for the first time in a little while, a search for "america beautiful 5 oz" yields less than 300 results. The largest part of the glut has passed. Now we're waiting for the glut of graded sets to hit....

The AMark coins I received were no better or worse than the ones I got from Fidelitrade. I wouldn't flip them, either. These are the keys in the series, and if the series develops a following, the market values will stabilize at a reasonable level that won't disappoint you. And, it can't hurt to stash the silver anyhow.

I may have answered too quickly...I agree w/jmski if you can afford to hold.

Unless silver crashes (certainly not likely in the near term despite the current high price) I think that these will in the worst case level out and should start to creep up. There are no APs selling now. There are two more to potentially sell. This alone may dry up the supply on Ebay a bit. It will take time however as many graded sets will soon be heading back to the flippers.

This will likely be the key to the bullion series. Not much down side to holding if you can.

Either way, a no-brainer to buy the set that you were offered.

Are you assuming that FideliTrade still has some and you are deciding whether to send in a order form, or are you contemplating canceling your existing order with them. On the same subject I turned down MTB when I got a call from them to buy a set because I had already gotten a set. I Probably wouldn't have done that today!

Sure, I'd love another set, provided it's not coming from APMEX. image

I agree with the buy and flip folks. It's not against the law to make a profit.

  • Buy....the mint should have been selling these in the first place and not farmed them out to their registered sellers ...it's sounds like your getting the price the mint sold them for plus a small % ....we've been screwed by the mint againimage
