Willie Mays auto'd ball question

I picked up an auto'd Willie Mays ball, the listing described it as a stat ball which it isn't. On one side the ball appears to be laser engraved with "Willie Mays Hr #626/660 09-Sep-70 vs. Houston Dierker". My question is was there something significant about HR #626, or did a company just engrave and issue a bunch of ONL balls for each of his homeruns? Thanks for any info.

Based on the numbering of your ball (626/660), my guess is that it's one in the series of 660 balls highlighting each home run Mays hit during his career. I would expect it to command a slight premium over the typical signed Mays ball since it's engraved and part of a limited edition.
