Another Merc.- 1921-D with split obverse

In addition to the 1927 Merc. I posted in another thread, I also bought this attractive 1921-D in PCGS AU55 from the same dealer today. As far as these go, I think it is above average in terms of originality. The strike is average to a little above avg. Looking through the Heritage archives, I found several PCGS AU-something coins that were either poorly struck (completely un-split bands) or else looked like they may have been dipped at some point. Therefore, I am satisfied with this one as a nice AU55. An added bonus is the die crack that completely bisects the obverse, which I have not seen on a 1921-D dime before. Does anyone else have one? I hereby baptize this variety as the "21-D Crackhead". image This will go nicely with the cracked 1841-o half I posted the other day.

I have a PCGS XF 40 '21-D. I don't quite see the die crack you are asking about. Could you help me out?

I know my bands aren't split. But it sure is a fun coin! I nought it about 10 years ago when I started collecting at 19 years old.

    Love this hobby!

Very nice 21-D. I have seen a 21-D with that DC started, but not that far along. Nice find.
