I would not think it is counterfeit. It's a Civil War token. One of thousands of designs. I don't know how rare this example would be but I do believe it's real and nice, too!

More like a fantasy replica...the originals say "1 cent" on the reverse. The lack of a denomination exempted them from counterfeiting laws, like the California gold tokens that say 1/2 but not 1/2 of WHAT.
