Looks like a solid VF35 or possibily an XF40 on a good day depending on how much luster is remaining. Nice coin in any event. Did you get it at a good price?image

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

That would be disappointing. The auctioneer (Scotsman) graded it as a VF. image

    It's now in a PCGS XF-40 holder.

Did you get it at a good price?

Let's just say that it was a much better deal than when I bought one sight-unseen at a Stack's auction several years ago.

Very nice, as usaual RYK! I have noticed some fake dirty look coins lately, they look like someone has put dye around the rim and devices, they haven't mastered the crusty/muddy booger look yet---------------BigE

High VF would be an honest grade

Agree with you but RYK already said it's in a PCGS XF40 slab.

if a VF is slabbed as an XF, do the details grow back onto the coin ? and if so how long does this usually take ?

No way is it a 40.

Ankur's piece looks fully "dirty." Don't think the XF40 is. Would also agree with a VF+ grade. Are they giving some points back due to a weak strike?

roadrunner...I had the same thought. No way is that XF, but maybe that's a weak strike year/variety.
