$750,000 in silver stolen from a private residence

According to this story a man was attacked in his home and robbed of $750,000 (CAD) in silver. It says he was stabbed so I believe he was robbed, but doesn't > 1,500 pounds seem like an awful lot of silver for a person to have in his house? How did "two thugs" spirit away the 3/4th ton of silver? Am I off base in thinking the guy exaggerated the theft?

First off I know this person very well. He told me of this incident the following day. He quoted that "loose lips sink ships". Well those loose lips happen to be his own, because he can't keep his mouth shut about anything. Finally this habit has caught up to him. This situation has nothing to do with keeping large amounts of silver or other precious items in one's home, it has to do with keeping one's mouth shut! Potential suspects? Every one, because that's who he told. My friend I'm sorry you lost so much but that was the cost of your lesson and unfortunately I still believe you can't keep you mouth shut. It's gotten you in trouble your whole life! How many people warned you?

Assuming 100 ounce bars we're looking at approx. 250 bars. I have seen bank vault storage lockers that could hold that, but it would not be cheap.

I wonder how much weight the typical safety deposit box can hold. The inside of mine is made out of plastic. I would be afraid to stack any 100 ouncers in there
