I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

The mintmark has roughly the correct shape. Will give it a preliminary yes and pass it on to the big dogs.

???..Maybe . Others' with alot of experience in dimes will know. Did compare to an UNC PCGS on ebay and it's shape looks different butmay be because it is worn alot.

    I have very serious doubts.
Take a chance and sent it to ANACS, but don't get your hopes up.

Edited to add: I do not like the shape of the inside of the D.
The fact that the rim below the mint mark looks like it has been buffed down is also suspicious, but as there are rim problems elsewhere so that proves nothing.

The D appears to be in the correct spot, and is roughly the right shape. But it has been cleaned. It would have to be a real give away price to buy it.

  • There are 4 different dies (MM's) for a 16-D. This appears to be No. 1............IMO, it's thumbs up. DEAN

My guess is polished but genuine.

  • Thank you all for your opinions. I respect all of your opinions and I feel that coming to this forum is such an education. This coin came back from across the street as "altered mint-mark" I disagree with this assessment as I think they saw the cleaning lines and used that as an excuse to call it altered. I wanted to get your unbiased opinions. I think I will resubmit unless someone can suggest why I should not.

    Thanks

my guess too, If I am not mistaken 2 of the 4 Rev dies are RPM and you look to have one of those.

I think it has an added mintmark. A genuine 16-D with that much wear would not have that middle hole remaining in the D (it would be totally filled in).

Edited to add: It's a little bit more worn than yours, but the point is, notice the "filled" D on heavily worn specimens

I would agree with that. It appears on southwest corner of D serif.

Thanks. Can I ask if this opinion was before I posted in came back altered or before. I am just curious because I need to feel confident before I send it back again.

It looks like metal was moved from between the mintmark and the rim to create the mintmark.

If you look in image number 3, you can see hairlines running from left to right except around the mintmark, the lines run top to bottom. I would be highly suspicious on that alone.

Second guessing oneself is not fun. I think I now would have to agree with relicsncoins and other who question it. I would like to say that the lines are just from cleaning. I would have thought that moving that much metal would have left far more noticeable lines and marks and I think I still see a RPM. God I hate ........I mean I love coins image

    It was worth trying once.
Another try would be a waste of money.
