Anybody know anything about AP slides?

I got a bunch of 49ers slides in a collection that I'm looking to sell. This is a lot from 1987, and there are more dating back to '79. Anybody know what these should bring? Do they do better in lots or individually?

  • I can recall some info about Schlitz slides but I don't think it is the same thing.

perhaps the team would like to have them.

i bet an almost 25 year-old slide of Ronnie Lott could cover an NFL wide receiver as well or better than anyone they currently have on their roster.

  • I don't know much about them, but would be interested in the Roger Craig since he was a Husker and I'm a big Husker fan!
  • These look like media slides that a newspaper may use to add pictures to a story. I'd say sell them individually unless you have a complete set.

Hundreds of each of these slides were sent out to local TV stations to use for broadcasts. I've bought them for as little as $2 apiece for "commons" to $10-15 for the biggest names.

I bought the 1985 Orioles team set of these slides (Ripken, Murray, Lynn, etc) for like $30-$40 a few years ago.

How about you stop being so damn needy and do your own research.

How would I go about doing my own research? I typed "AP slides" on my keyboard and nothing happened.

I have a few team sets of these from I think the 1981 baseball season. One is the A's Ricky Henderson. I forget the others I have sitting in a box.

To me this is a geat place to do research as there are a lot of people who know about this stuff so I think CD's post makes perfect sense. Downgoesfrazier used to post here a lot and was really into slides, photos, etc.....
  • It should not be a big surprise ... I have several soccer slides -

NIKE produced some of these for Player of the Year and other awards.

I have a Kasey Keller (Seattle Sounders) and an Eric Cantona (Manchester United) - both players I collect. I think I have a Mia Hamm which I have, for some reason, been prevented from burning ... up for grabs if anyone wants it.

I don't know much about these slides, but should you choose to sell them on Ebay I'd make sure to list the team name in the auction title since these will most likely appeal to team collectors.

They were sent out in huge binders as "complete sets" for use in TV newscasts/programming back in the days when projectors were used to present graphic images. Most major market stations got them or could request them. I believe the practice stopped in the early 90s?

    Lee,

These are really cool and very inexpensive. I sold team sets from 79-81 for anywhere from 25 cents per slide to a set of 12 for $100. Very reasonable for Montana's rookie, Stauback, LT, etc. They are really only worth what a collector will pay for them and, even though they are seldom seen, they do not command a big dollar.

I bought mine out of Huggins and Scott about 5 years ago for less than $1 per slide and lost money.

    Hope this helps.
