Generally speaking, I would say collect the set that looks best to you based on design. Hockey cards from the early 90s, aren't particularly valuable, so generally speaking, I don't think that's a factor.

However, another way to look at it is to pick Upper Deck. They're the only company from the early 90s that has consistently produced NHL hockey cards every year up to the current year.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

  • Upper Deck...better photos front and back and as you go up each year....it gets better. I'd go with factory sets if possible, then wax boxes and post in the BST board for commons when you get to the years they didn't issue them

For 1990 OPC Premier is definitely the most desirable. Upper Deck takes the cake for players from 1990 that weren't in the OPC Premier set, as well as most of the early 90's. Hope that answers your questions.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards
  • Last time I let my son post...We have a different type of collection. We are collecting the 100 top leading scorers rookie cards as of last year. We decided to go with all psa graded cards. We have picked the cards that have been graded the most. So for the 1990 cards we picked some OPC premiere and some Upper Deck depending on which card has more graded cards in the population reports. Thoughts?

I'm assuming that by "100 top leading scorers" you mean "100 top leading scorers among active players," right? So no Gordie Howe, Wayne Greatzky etc..?

If that's the case, then I stand becide Upper Deck since they're the only company that has made a set every year since the early 90s. Otherwise, I'd just pick the rookie card you like the best for each player on a player-by-player basis.

This sounds like a fun collection to assemble with your son.
  • No. Acutally we took the list from the end of last season and stopped there. So Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr are part of it. Just go confusing with the more recent cards. Easy for the old ones.

Wow! That's an ambitious collecting goal!

In that case, I'd suggest picking each player's rookie card on an individual basis. Either pick the one you like the look of best, or the most valuable one that you can afford in the condition that you want.

Make sure to post some scans!

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
    Let them know
    The Wicked Witch is dead!
