Original Bust quarter

This coin is the richest looking coin i have. I looks to me as if it's never been cleaned in it's life to me. It's in a PCGS VF25 holder. What do you think? Comments?

Sweet! Is that a reverse die crack or a scratch, all that crust is getting in my way!

She has a lot of character. B2-R3 reverse die stage 3 I believe.
  • It does have all the cracks, i agree because of the crust they do look like scratches.

  • Yes HCH I your right It is a DS3. Some of the cracks are hard to see with the toning, but they are there.

Very nice and crusty! But I have to say the very dark/black spots are of concern as they can lead to corrosion. Hard to know without seeing it without a loupe.

HA HA, If it was in a doily one of two things would happen, either i would never tell you or you would be the first to know so i could brag about it.image

That stuff has been there a long time, a very long time and i don't see any corrosion. Maybe it will show up in the next two hundered years.

Now that's how all circulated old coins should look!!

Just goes to show you most coins are dipped sometime in their history.

Sorry to pee in the punchbowl but I don't like that look much at all. I'm normally very attracted to original circulated large silver coins, but can't say that one does much for me. Maybe its the splotchy black areas. From reading the thread, looks like I'm definately in the minority not liking the piece. Enjoy it!

If that brown color truly reflects what the coin looks like, then IMO it was cleaned a long time ago and it retoned.

I love the coin (I've seen it in hand,) but I'm not gonna lie, your pics make it look terrible. It's a really nice coin if you like original and crusty, which I do!

I have several coins in an old leather purse I inherited from a great aunt. The toning looks a lot like that. Not really my cup of tea.
