The primary objective of this book is to present organizers, coin dealers, and parents ideas, methods, and tools for getting kids involved in coin collecting and helping the next generation enjoy our hobby as we have and to help our hobby grow.

The Washington State Quarter Program and other new United States Mint coin programs has given the hobby new opportunities to bring young collectors into the hobby. It was estimated that before the State Quarters, there were only a few million collectors in the country. With the Washington State Quarter Program, this number grew to over 100 million people collecting coins. The primary question and objective of this book is how to get these young collectors to taking the next step into actively collecting and becoming involved in the hobby.

Show organizers and clubs need to explore new methods for reaching out to potential families and young collectors. There are several very successful coin clubs which have established programs for young collectors. We need to learn from these and expand their experiences and knowledge to other clubs. We need to ensure that the shows are kid friendly. That dealers, as the ambassadors to our hobby have the tools and objectives to help kids enjoy coins. This book presents many ideas for making coin shows family and kid friendly and presents the differences between large and small coin shows and how to get kids ready for a coin show and start collecting.

Boy and Girl scouts are a great resource for new collectors, but there are many more opportunities we can follow. For example, teachers are one of the primary influence to kids as they are learning. Coins are a good teaching tools on many different subjects including history, math, and drawing, to name a few. Coins can also be very helpful to building basic skills for kids such as goal setting and being more detailed oriented. This should be an easy selling point for parents who might see their kids spending hours in front of video games. This book also evaluates the different ages of kids and the best way to present coins to them and how to make it fun and exciting for young collectors.

The book includes articles written by Charmy Harker, Kenneth Bressett, David L. Ganz, Duane Blake, Jim Majoros, Walter Ostromecki, Chris Connell, Carol E. Young, Zackary Breier, Michael Moline, and Harvey Stack. From their experiences, these experts have presented some great ideas for getting kids involved in coin collecting and how to retain their interest.

Seeking the next generation of collectors is not just about saving our hobby, it is helping new collectors enjoy what we have enjoyed.

Kevin Flynn, the game designer who developed the big hits "Space Paranoids" and "Tron" before disappearing into a virtual alternate universe? I bet there is a good chapter on quarters...

I wish, my wife would say that I sometimes appear to be in a alternative universe/reality.

This book has a small section on the Washington Quarters. I am going into full detail in the third kids book.
