Does PSA grade unreleased cards?

A tad bit frustrated how the industry pick and choose, so wondering if PSA grade unreleased cards. BGS returns cards as "no info" if it doesn't list in their database (want you to provide a background report to get it added to their database before they will grade it) and SGC said they don't grade unreleased cards.

Just curious, is the card cataloged anywhere ? For instance the SCD Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards does list some unreleased cards known in the hobby and some get graded as authentic.

The 1988 Maxx # 99 Earnhardt was never released and PSA does grade that card.

Some test issues are issued on a very limited basis, for example 68 3Ds, which are graded. But there are 3 proof cards and a prototype to that set that were not issued, but have been graded as authentic. Other examples of test "issues" that were likely not issued at all would the Topps 3 unissued 51 Current All Stars, 55 Stamps , 61 Dice and 70 Cloth. But all of them are cataloged and I think could be graded authentic. Whatever you have would first have to be recognized/identified in some way as an actual authentic issue by someone. Otherwise how would you label it even as an authentic whatever

  • Anything they don't grade can be slabbed with a customized green flip.

Whether graded or not, they'll slab virtually anything as long as it's not controversial or too obscene. They grade Benchwarmer cards, so they obviously don't object to a little T&A.

They are cards from major companies. One in particular: 2001 Fleer Genuine Thurman Munson Final Cut Jersey. I had the other cards added as they surfaced, and even have an interview with the product manager of that product. Just get tired of having to be their intern researcher in order to get cards graded.

Don Larsen, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry, Dave Righetti, and Reggie Jackson are listed , but Munson isn't. I have other unreleased cards from major manufactures that surfaced that is unlisted.

  • You can get unlicensed cards slabbed in a green flip? Where on the site does it talk about that?

  • Assuming it isn't too expensive, I might actually do that for some of the unlicensed cards that are listed in the guide that PSA won't grade.
