I think the "more than 30k" comment was in reference to the low, 2500? mintage of the coin he was selling. Not familiar with it but would a US gold coin with that low of a mintage be worth anywhere close to 30k in AU55?

Some would, some would not. Quite a few gold dollars, quarter eagles and $3 gold pieces have a mintage that low and are priced way below $30K.
