I was hoping someone might have some good adivce on a card collection we inherited which is extremely expansive (>500K card) and consist of 1951-2005 full sets and much much more. I was wondering if we should get the earlier set reviewed by PSA or another agency. Is this going to be expensive or worth our time?

I'd get the earlier stars graded that's for sure. Some scans would help too.
Condition will dictate if commons should get graded.

So full sets of 51/52 including all stars/mantle etc?

Without seeing some scans - it's hard to say on the earlier sets.
I agree with Steve - the early sets - the stars if in pretty good condition would be good to grade - I infer you're considering selling?
Just be careful of someone trying to "steal" the stuff from you - i.e. - selling too cheap?
Why don't I get that kind of inheritance!

Is there a specific way other than scanning on my printer and attaching them to my post?
You can easily upload a massive amount of photos, and you can use the [img] tag one (click and it auto copies and paste) and just put it in the text and your pictures automatically show up.
Patience is a virtue. No need to sell all at once. Get good advice, perhaps sell a small amount through a reliable dealer. Be sure you are happy with the way things go before selling the next group.

The complete sets are encased in individual plastic sleeves or thick plastic holders and stored in individual boxes for each year.
Also, I know there's ton of football and basketball boxes, so I'll check on those individuals for you.
I'm extremely grateful for everyones response and as all of you I hope to learn as much as I can on this passionate hobby. I'm not in any financial hurry to sell off collection ,but would like to learn and potential become a part of a great group of collectors.
Take your time. Listen to at least three potential buyers. They aren't going anywhere.
If those cards are as valuable as you/we might think they are, they will only increase in value even more a month/year from now.

Exactly, there are some cards from those sets (and complete sets) that you will have hundreds of potential buyers.
What or who do you mean by "listen to 3 potential buyers?
I think I'm going learning and sharing my collection with you all. I'll post some photo's tomorrow.
By the way there's a couple 100 of unopened boxes from the 70's and 80's (wrapped in original plastic) that contain the individual packets of cards, are these worth anything?

I know 70's can be worth some major money - not as sure about 80's, I'm sure early 80's are pretty good too.
As far as three potential buyers, you're best bet is to start selling on the BST forum. Pick any three that have responded to your post and that'll work, skip the eBay and Paypal fee part of it all if you go through eBay.

As was said - I would scan the cards - make sure you "crop" them so the image isn't too big.
Open a "Photobucket" account - it's free - and down load the cards scanned there.
Then each scan will have a URL address to directly post here.
When you go to "post" - look at the buttons under MESSAGE TEXT: the 4th button is a picture frame - you can attach the URL address there and it will show up on the post.
