That's a really nicely centered and sharp 8, but those roller marks are pretty significant, so I doubt it would get 8.5 because of that.
Your 9 also has slight marks (in the S and on his arm, as well as marks in the left border), and if it were graded post-half grade era, I think it would get an 8.5.

The PSA 8 appears to be the right grade; edges and mark on the S. The PSA 9, I don't think would get bumped due to the marks on the S, the what appears to be a fish eye on the A, and the markings on the bottom right. JMO

I think the top to bottom centering, plus the prit dot between N and G in Angels, along with the printing line going through the S keeps that card out of a 9 holder. I wouldnt find that card terribly out of place in a PSA 8.5 holder though. Both are nice cards, that I wouldnt mind owning. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

I would LOOOOOOOOVE that 8 for my set!!! Been having a hellova time finding a decent 8 for a decent price. is it a lowpop or just a ridiculously popular card? i can buy PSA 8s of the '74 Ryan all day for $40-50!!! anyway, lemme know if you wanna part with it, and we can add it in!!

The edges on the 8 make it an 8. Very nice card, but properly graded and I don't think it will bump. The 9 has better edges and is a better card overall, but there are marks of various sorts literally all over the front of the card, and I think it might actually be a little overgraded. If it is, it's not by much, but no way it could ever bump to a 10.

What kind of scanner do you use? I am in the market for a new one and the scans of these Ryans are nice!

I agree with what the others have said. The cards are pretty much where they belong and don't think they would bump.

top/bottom centering keeps that 8 an 8 IMO. That 9 looks awesome!
