I've posted this coin (J159) before but I don't have many pictures of my (sadly, few) other patterns. Regardless, I like this pattern because the lathe marks (used to construct the die) are so obvious.
Cent made at General Motors circa 1967 on experimental roller presses using nonsense dies provided by the mint. This project was a collaborative effort between the mint and GM and was undertaken to try to ease the coin shortage of that era. It is believed this was only the second time Mint dies were allowed to be sent outside the mint (the other was for some WWII material experiments). It was hoped these roller presses would produce around 10,000 coins per minute, far above standard presses of the time. Listed in Pollock as P-4060. Ultimately, the experiment failed because of lubrication issues at those speeds and die life. If interested in these patterns, there is an extensive article in Coin World dated 5/29/95 & 6/5/95.
Edited to add: So this is unusual in that it was a pattern produced by a new method of manufacture instead of a design pattern. For security reasons, the dies were made with nonsense legends.

Without a doubt, a patten...a PRIVATE pattern! Dr. Feuchtwanger, at age 32, and a recent immigrant to this country, petitioned Congress to accept his composition alloy as a basis for the minor coinage of the United States. Specimen coins were struck, and sent to the US Mint and members of congress.
He tried once again in 1865, and made several strikings of the three cent piece.
The toning is wonderful! The eagles wings though.....reminds me of the old trick you used on girls when you were a frisky teen 'Hey, can you touch your elbows together behind your back???"

I dunno. I have shown up before with way too much money and still was not allowed to buy any patterns. They really keep these controled.
