Frustrated at Whitman

Just needing to vent a little bit. I ordered Whitman coin album #2477 for the Presidential First Spouse bronze medals. Thought it would be kind of nice to have a place to keep them. Well I got it yesterday and the book has 4 spots for each year. 4 presidential coins each year right. Except 2009 has 5 medals. Tyler's first wife died and he remarried so two medals for him, Letitia Tyler and Julia Tyler. The geniuses at Whitman didn't put two spaces for this. And get this, they put both of the names the one hole for the Tyler spouse so, two coins for one hole. Brilliant. Makes the book useless unless I make peel and stick labels for all the holes. Sorry about the rant but this kind of thing is so frustrating to me. Why would they do that? It just makes no sense whatsoever.

sounds like someone forgot to research that before they made the album

  • They did research this. The thing is they have both names on the one hole. Stupid.

...maybe they ran out of holes? Foxes seem to have that problem sometimes....

Now that you feel better about your "rant" (which was pretty tame by most standards) you should
contact them about this. This album must be pretty new, and can most likely be corrected without
too much trouble. They might even want to swap your current one for the corrected version. My
experiences with Whitman have all been pleasant over the years.

Well done, Dentuck! Less than an hour between original posting and solution!

  • Email sent to you Dennis. And thanks. Wow. That was fast.
  • Dentuck- Does Whitman make or have they ever thought of making a Mexican type set album? I know of several people who are looking for one, not the push in type but the type with sliding plastic strips. I would go back if they started making unique products.

I bought a Harris coin folder with the "issued in mint sets" plug in the 1969D hole.

I had to cut it out of there and move it. image

...no doubt the folders were designed by the guy who done the one with the spot for the 1975 quarter image

  • Just an update to be fair to Whitman. Contacted Dentuck and Whitman has fixed the problem with the album. They sent me the corrected album free to replace the incorrect one. Arrived 2 days after I contacted Dentuck about it. How great is that.

Whitman is a good company, though, they made mistakes, as everyone else.
Glad they took care of your problem.

You may want to change the subject with the update.

im disappointed with whitman and some of the stuff they are doing as well. that is why i went over to dansco albums as well and like the looks of it better.
  • Save the "error" album. One day it will be a rare collectable! image

I'm disappointed too... however, if they send me at least one of each item they offer for free, I'll be less disappointed! image

I wish they, or anyone, would make an attractive slab folder/album. The clear slab sheets from Lighthouse look tacky. It'd be nice to have an attractive alternative.

Have you seen the pages from Eagle? Do you think the Lighthouse Grande albums and slipcases look tacky, or just the paqes?

Except in this case, Whitman is the only company that makes an album for the first spouse medals. image
  • Are you album collection guys (Whitman or Dansco) afraid of slide marks?

I love their albums (as a matter of fact, I have a lot of unopened album/slipcases in my closet), I just don't like the pages. It'd be nice if someone invented ones that had color (not clear where there's no coin).
